LSB install
I recently had an opportunity to try out a relatively new product for framing, a LiteSteelBeam. Unlike traditional hot-rolled beams, this is a relatively light-weight beam, composed of two light-gauge square tubes connected by a similar gauge plate. The application was an 18' span, carrying a small floor/wall/roof load but also a concrete slab on pan metal and a first-floor wall load of stacked stone. The truss designer suggested I look at the product as compared to the traditional wood LVL/steel WF beam alternates. It ended up to be cost-competitive and easier to install than either alternative so I decided to go with it. Here are some details:
