Big Creek

This was an interesting project we did for a builder in Blue Ridge. Smaller cabin home, lots of rustic details and roughsawn wood. Our crews are primarily framing crews but we've been doing all the exterior work for this builder and the interior flooring, paneling and trim as well.

  • Front elevation, from underneath the portico.
  • Right elevation outside the Master suite, nothing too interesting here but I like the slab siding we used on the gable and fascia. makes for an interesting detail, don't you think?
  • Exterior shot looking up through the back porches at the rear of the Great Room. Check out the Mountain Laurel handrail...
  • Interior of the Great Room from the dining area.
  • the kitchen and bar.
  • I wish I'd gotten a better shot of this, it's(to me at least) one of the most interesting details in the house. It's the intersection of the 6/12 kitchen.dining ceiling with the 10/12 vault over the great room. The 4x10 bastard valley is supported on a 6x12 beam at the bottom and carried with lag bolts off a 4x12 shop-built truss at the upper end. There's a 2' difference in wall heights so we couldn't simply run the valley to the back wall and we really didn't want a long interior wall to support it that would interfere with the flow at the floor level. So we stuck a 6x12 on top of the wall and landed the valley on that. It really opens up both rooms.

  • Front elevation from the Sleeping Loft. Cozy but comfortable....
  • Another shot of the Kitchen, highlighting the bar. This builder likes stone, I've never seen ceramic tile in his houses. Personally, I think he puts it to good use.

  • My favorite detail in the whole house, the master shower. Yes, Virginia, it's all stone and there's a shower outlet above the shelf over the bench that you can turn on and make your own personal waterfall...
  • Master Bath, looking into that awesome shower.
